Saint-Raphaël is a French commune located in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It is the capital of the canton of Saint-Raphaël. From the Roman villas on the road to Forum Julii to the fishing village where Napoleon Bonaparte landed in 1799, the commune became, from the second half of the 19th century, under the influence of the mayor Félix Martin and the writer Alphonse Karr, a seaside resort popular with artists, athletes and politicians.
